Before & After the Treatment

To get the greatest benefit possible from your acupuncture treatments, please observe the following:

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

  • Do not rush to your appointment! Please arrive 5-10 mins before your appointment so you can relax and we can take your pulses accurately.
  • Do not come with an empty stomach. Eat light meal but not an unusually large meal either before or immediately after your treatment.
  • To avoid the infection, when possible it is better to wash hair & take shower before the treatment.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes that can pull up and allow access to the lower leg and forearm.
  • Do not wear make-up, perfume or heavily scented lotions, shampoos or soaps to treatment.
  • The diagnosis involves looking at your tongue and complexion, so if you brush your tongue, try to skip it a few days before your treatment to allow a more realistic assessment.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after treatments.
  • Continue all prescription medications and treatments exactly as directed by your physician or other health care providers.
  • Note and report any changes in physical or emotional patterns that occur between your acupuncture treatments. This detail is valuable in planning the course of your treatment.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

  • Plan your activities so that after a treatment you can get some rest and allow your body to gain the maximum benefit from the treatment.
  • When bruising on the needle, cupping or Gua Sha site, avoid immediately shower after a treatment.
  • Occasionally a point may ache or discomfort a little following a treatment. These are all normal reactions, but take note of how you respond to acupuncture and give us feedback on any positive or adverse reactions.
